Organization
ILGA PORTUGAL
Founded in 1995, ILGA Portugal is the largest and oldest NGO in Portugal striving for equality and against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
Our mission is the social inclusion of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender population in Portugal through a program of social support that improves the quality of life of LGBT people and their families; through the fight against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity; and through the promotion of full citizenship, Human Rights and gender equality.
We are a national organization and although we are based in Lisboa, we also have a group working in Porto. We have a strong diversity policy and very active groups devoted to working on Lesbian or Trans issues, as well as a group devoted to Rainbow Families. We are members of the Fundamental Rights Platform, we represent Portugal in ILGA Europe’s Advocacy Network and we are founding members of NELFA.

NELFA
The Network of European LGBT Families Associations (NELFA aisbl) was created on 1 May 2009 to bring together the associations of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender parents and their children from European nations under one European organization to represent LGBT-Rainbow Families.
NELFA aims at creating the conditions for effecting changes necessary in EU countries to:
Ensure that LGBT families have the same rights within the EU as families led by opposite-sex parents;
Ensure that the children of Rainbow Families (LGBT families) are treated by the Law in the same way as the children of families led by opposite-sex parents.
NELFA aims at raising awareness about the situation of LGBT families amongst the public at large.
NELFA encourages equal opportunity policies within EU Member States in relation to LGBT families with regard to legal, financial, educational, social and other relevant matters.
NELFA aims at obtaining the support of both ordinary people and politicians and lobbying EU institutions and Member States to carry out the aims stated above.
