Political Zine Making Workshop
Calling all would-be, hobbyist or established zine makers! This workshop is for you!
Whether you’re looking to dip your toes into this popular self publishing tradition or you’d enjoy a fun way to make more time for zine-making, come join us on Friday 17th for a night of learning and creating.
And if you’re feeling frustrated, angry or fed up with the state of the world around you, we’ll be creating a cathartic space to channel those feelings into action, as a nod to the importance of zine making in historical resistance movements.
The Workshop
After a quick presentation on the origin and history of zine making, we’ll jump right into creating our very own traditional 6 page zines. Using the variety of materials available, each one of us will select a political focus that draws our passion.
What will you choose? Maybe you’ll create a zine on an important historical or modern figure, spread your love to queertrans people or go even further and educate others on a political bill you’ve been keeping your eye on.
The options are endless – but this is your time to use to educate and engage yourself and others through self publishing!
Materials including markers, pens, collage materials and a selection of coloured papers will be provided but feel free to bring in any materials of your own.
Your Facilitator
Artist, workshop facilitator and community organiser Hash (they/he) has spent the past 6 years exploring the intersection between art, community and political action. When they’re not creating political and queer art accessories for their brand Sofftpunk or hosting engaging art workshops and events at ILGA, they’re organising social good projects and community fundraisers.
Their philosophy sees engaging with art and reclaiming our creativity as just one vital step in reimagining a better future for all marginalised people, and their workshops aim to create a welcoming and inspiring space for each person to reconnect with their creative selves. Catch them here at ILGA every month, with a different intentional art workshop!
